 SUPPORT MY WRITING

What is Patreon?

a new way to support creators

Writers plot, outline, draft, revise, and repeat all before they see their first paycheck. Not to mention the time spent querying agents or finding a publishing company to print their book. I’m not complaining. I love my job! Writing feels like what I was made to do, and it truly gives me joy. However, because of the nature of publishing, writers aren’t always guaranteed monetary compensation for their efforts (and the compensation received can be quite volatile).

Enter Patreon. During the middle ages, artists were sponsored by kings and queens, religious leaders, or wealthy lay people. In the 21st century, artists and other creators can now be sponsored by groups of individuals through Patreon. Think of Patreon as a subscription service to a particular creator and their work (in this case, me). If enough people choose to support me, it eases my financial burden. In return, I offer special bonuses such as: a monthly livestream hosted on Discord, exclusive access to my newsletter archives, the Book Nook and other blog posts, access to Pinterest boards of my characters and settings, your name printed in my books, and so much more.

Through Patreon you can help sponsor my writing career for as little as $3 a month. Would you join me in this journey and become an integral part of making my dreams come true?

Why give?

how YOUR SPONSORSHIP helps

As I mentioned above, novelists spend so much time creating their story before ever seeing a paycheck (and when they do finish, compensation isn’t always a given). Sponsoring me through Patreon helps alleviate some of that burden and provides me with a steady monthly income that I can rely on. The following are a few things your patronage will support:

The cost of creating a publish ready book (~$3,000)

There’s a lot that goes into getting a book read to submit for publication. First you have the prep work like brainstorming, outlining, and world-building. Then comes the actual writing itself. When draft one is complete, editing and revising come into play. A finished manuscript can take as many as 6–10 drafts. Somewhere in that process a critique partner or editor along with beta readers will give feedback on the draft. Once the draft is as polished as can be, querying begins. This involves submitting the letters to agents to find someone who will represent the book, who in turn begin the search for a publisher who will publish it. The final leg of the journey involves promoting the book before and after it’s published. Then the whole process begins again.

The cost of living

Having a steady monthly income helps give creators like myself peace of mind when making financial decisions. Advances can be few and far between and range widely from one to the next. When I can count on patrons, such as yourself, to support me on a monthly basis, it gives me freedom in planning for the future and providing for my family.

The cost of running a business

As well as writing novels and short stories, I regularly devote time to my website, newsletter, and social media to keep them up and running. This work is essential in creating a brand for myself and getting my name out there. Also, when agents and publishers see that people are already willing to pay for access to my writing, they’re more likely to invest in my work.

Small and local businesses

By supporting me, you give me the ability to work at small coffee shops or local breweries and buy their wares. Your sponsorship also allows me to purchase books through bookshop.org or local bookstores. In addition to these writing-related activities, I also enjoy giving back to charitable causes whenever I can.

HELLO! 👋🏻 I’m Christi.

Welcome to the Patreon side of things. My passion (besides writing stories) is to create cozy spaces online that foster an encouraging community and enable book lovers to connect. If you love being transported to magical worlds or scribbling in notebooks, I hope you’ll consider joining my Patreon community to meet other likeminded individuals and help sponsor my writing career.

I write to process the world. When I infuse my joy, sorrows and trauma into stories, it’s like putting a puzzle together and seeing everything clearly for the first time. Writing allows me to heal. It’s the channel I use to interact with the magic that exists everywhere around me.

In 2019, I graduated from The Story Magic Academy by Rachael Stephen where I learned to use the Plot Embryo to structure my stories. I won NaNoWriMo two years in a row and am in the process of querying one of those novels. My essay on why I write was published in Issue 01 of Writerly Magazine, and my erotic short stories are available in my Patreon shop. In addition to working with a professional editor to hone my craft, I manage a bi-monthly newsletter and a writerly Instagram account.

Thank you for considering joining me on this incredible journey!
